The American Legion Baseball World Series -
August 10-15, 2023 in Shelby, NC

By the time teams get to the American Legion World Series, most of them will have played about 50 games; some will have played closer to 70 games. But all of them typically will have won five games at the substate level; five games at the state level and five games at the regional level.
Every team plays by the same rules set by American Legion Baseball, which is overseen by the National Americanism Commission. However, the number of games per regular season is determined by the teams themselves.
The journey to the ALWS varies from state to state. States with many teams have county tournaments, district tournaments, regional tournaments, area tournaments and finally a state tournament with eight teams. States with fewer teams have fewer tournament levels to determine a state champion. Nearly every state uses a double-elimination tournament to determine the winner.
Once at American Legion World Series, they’re faced with winning five games to become the ALWS Champion.

Past Venues

The Inaugural Liberty Classic Baseball Series between the United States Air Force Academy
and the United States Military Academy (February 17-19, 2023)

Among the Service Academies, Air Force vs. Army has a historic rivalry. The two great teams opened their 2023 seasons with the Inaugural Liberty Classic Baseball Series in Cleburne, Texas. Both teams qualified for the NCAA Tournament in 2022 and we saw some GREAT collegiate
baseball during this series.

The Cleburne Railroaders hosted the series in their beautiful Railroaders’ Stadium. There were flyovers by military aircraft, vintage aircraft, military & first responder vehicles were on static display, and the game ball and American Flag were presented by the US Air Force Academy’s
competition parachute team, the “Wings of Blue.”

Cleburne, Texas, is home to the American Association’s baseball team, the Railroaders! Cleburne is a city less than 45 mins south of Fort Worth – visiting it and watching the Railroaders is definitely a bucket list item!
